A wooden hand-held rug hook or tufting device. It is also known as a shuttle hook or sliding hook. The two wooden pieces slide along side one another with the 1.25" metal needle in between that pushes the thread through a cloth backing. The hinges between the two wooden sides are brass and are marked: SuSan Burr, Holley Associates, Torrington, Conn.
