Mariner's Compass pattern quilt.
Handmade quilt of cotton material in colors red, blue, green, white with yellow print pieces in Mariners Compass pattern. Three rows of quilt blocks with three blocks in each row.
Quilt was given to the Mostellar family of Bartow County in payment for meals the Mostellers gave to a refugee family during the Civil War. During the 1920s when the Mosteller family sold the family home, known as Mostellars' Mills, a family feud developed, and an aunt, knowing Joseph Mosteller (last family member born at the homeplace) was to inherit the quilt, smuggled it away from home under her skirt as she rode in a wagon. She gave the quilt to Joseph, and it remained in his possession until his death in 1987 at the age of 90. His daughter, the donor of the quilt, inherited it at this death.
